Tim Olszewski

Coach Olszewski has over 25 years coaching experience as well as 10 years experience as an AAU coach and basketball trainer. He was the Fenton boys varsity coach from 2004 – 2015 winning league titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013. He was nominated for the Class A, Regional 11 coach of the year. Since taking over the helm at Howell, he has lead the Highlanders to a KLAA West Division Title, KLAA Lakes Conference title and KLAA Association title all in his first season. Finishing the season with a 20-3 record, Olszewski added a District Championship for the Highlanders to his resume last year as well.

Tyler Szczepanski

Tyler Szczepanski has seven years of coaching experience at the middle school and high school level. Tyler has coached AAU basketball and has trained athletes in basketball and strength/conditioning for the past five years. Tyler played under Coach O while at Fenton from 2008-2010 and was a part of the first two championships Olszewski won while at Fenton. Tyler joined the coaching staff for the next three league titles at Fenton and then followed Olszewski to Howell last year. Tyler also teaches World History at Howell High School.

Trevor Kline

Trevor Kline has five years of coaching experience at the middle school, high school, and AAU levels. Trevor also played under Coach O during the 2008-2010 stretch when Olszewski won his first two of five championships at Fenton. Trevor and Tyler, along with the rest of the coaching staff, joined Olszewski in Howell when he took the girls varsity job one year ago. Trevor also teaches Algebra at Flushing High School.

8th Grade Girls – John Hanifan

Coach Hanifan has coached Jr. High School Basketball for more than a decade in Livingston County. His school teams -boys and girls – have won 80% of their games and numerous league championships. His AAU and travel teams have won dozens of tournament championships, including AYBT National Championship and many final 4 appearances. He has coached multiple players who have gone on to the college level.

9th Grade Girls – Carrie Closter

Ida High School (2010) Earned eight varsity letters in basketball, cross country, softball and track … Led the Blue Streaks to four Lenawee Country championships in basketball, two in cross country and another in softball … Helped her teams on the basketball court to a 78-12 record in four years. Was a two-time (2009, ’10) All-LCAA and Monroe County All-Region selection on the hardwood … Named Ida’s Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior (2009, ’10) … Led the Blue Streaks to a pair of undefeated regular seasons (2009, ’10) … After graduation went on to play collegiate basketball at Madonna University for four years. Currently an assistant varsity girls’ basketball coach at Livonia Churchill High School.

10th Grade Girls – Phil Fugate & Josh Fugate

Coach Phil Fugate has been coaching for over 20 years at all levels. Ten years as JV boys and Varsity assistant at Lakeland High School and Holly High School. He has been coaching AAU for the past 12 years at all levels. Many of his players have went on to very successful collegiate careers. Coach Fugate’s main focus is on player development.

Coach Josh Fugate played varsity basketball at Holly High school. He averaged 20 pts per game his senior year, and earned first team all league status. Josh went on to play at Concordia University for four years. Josh earned all league honors for three years while playing there. Josh scored 1,387 pts. in his career at Concordia. Josh’s specialty is teaching offensive attacking skills.

11th Grade Girls – K’Len Morris

K’Len was a four year starter in high school starting his career at Redford Union before moving to Grand Blanc High School where he went on to graduate. K’Len was a two time All-State athlete in both basketball and track in 2005 and 2006. During his career in high school he was invited and played in the NBA Top 100 camp along with the Adidas Superstar camp. After graduating he went on to play collegiate basketball at the University of Michigan for two years before finishing his career and graduating from Grand Valley State University. He is now in his second year as the Girl’s Head Varsity Coach at Livonia Churchill where he lead the school to their first ever district championship in 2016.

6th Grade Boys – Thomas “TJ” Fischhaber

HIGH SCHOOL – League and District North East A League Champions 1995, State runners-up 1995, WA. COLLEGE PLAYING – Siena Heights University, Adrian, MI 1996-2000, 3x Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conf. (WHAC) Champions, 3x National Catholic Basketball Tournament Champions, Team Captain. COACHING- 1998-1999 head coach 7th grade boys at Drager MS, Adrian, MI, 1998-2000 Assistant Varsity boy’s coach Sand Creek, MI (won the league, runner up in districts), 2006-2007 Head freshman girls coach Davison HS, 2007-2009 Head JV girls coach Davison HS, 2009-2012 Head Varsity girls coach Davison HS, Big Nine Coach of the year, 2x District Champions, Most wins in a single season, Most points scored by a DHS girls’ Varsity team (96pts vs Lapeer East High school), 5 seniors played on scholarship in D1 &  D2 colleges. TRAVEL COACH – 4 years coaching the Boys Jr Highlanders Boy’s Basketball program.

7th Grade Boys – Steve Lepage

23 years of coaching experience. 15 years of coaching at the High School Level, 15 years of youth coaching experience Kindergarten thru 8th grade and 9 years of AAU coaching.

9th Grade Boys – Ken Samples

Coach Samples played college basketball for two years at Siena Heights University. He has coached the Howell Freshmen for over ten years. In the last five years between travel (4-8 grade), St. Joseph middle school, and Freshmen/ JV summer leagues, he has coached in approximately three hundred games. The winning percentage of of those games is in excess of 75%.

10th Grade Boys – Trevor Bennett

Coach Bennett has been involved in coaching basketball for the past 12 years. He coached Brighton Boys Travel Basketball for 5 years and is now the head of the Brighton Boys Travel Basketball organization. Coach Bennett also assisted in the coaching of his oldest son’s AAU team that included many players who are currently playing D1, D2 and D3 college basketball. This past year, Coach Bennett had the pleasure of being the assistant coach for the Brighton Boys Freshman Basketball team. Coach Bennett brings an upbeat, enthusiastic style to his coaching. He loves to mentor his players and make them the best they can be.
